Orléans Departmental Conservatory of Music

Orléans Departmental Conservatory of Music

The restructuring of the Orléans Departmental Conservatory embodies the philosophy of a “narrative of continuity.” Located in the historic heart of the city, the project transforms a collection of emblematic buildings—some dating back to the 15th century—into a centre of artistic excellence for the 21st century. The intervention spans the historic Sainte-Croix site, the former Caisse d’Épargne premises (CELC), the Municipal Police facilities, as well as the Hôtel Groslot garden and the Municipal Police courtyard, both of which accommodate two new building volumes.

Across a total floor area of 4,500 m², the project creates flexible and adaptable spaces that foster cross-disciplinary practice between music, dance and theatre. Innovative solutions such as mobile acoustic partitions allow spaces to be reconfigured according to evolving needs while preserving the historical authenticity of the site. The redevelopment discreetly combines heritage and advanced technology, resulting in a fully connected and digitised environment designed to support contemporary artistic practices.

This approach illustrates a strong commitment to weaving a continuous link between the past, present and future of artistic creation, while meeting the standards and requirements of a 21st-century facility.
