Refurbishment and Extension of the INSPE – Stephen Liégeard Campus

Refurbishment and Extension of the INSPE – Stephen Liégeard Campus

The refurbishment and extension of the INSPE is set within a remarkable site characterised by a historic park, terraced gardens and a diverse architectural heritage shaped by successive periods of development. Rather than seeking to homogenise this ensemble, the project embraces its diversity to create a coherent and contemporary campus identity.

A series of carefully targeted timber interventions connects the various teaching, research and documentation facilities while preserving the site’s architectural and landscape qualities. The renovation of the main building, the reversible extensions and the new facilities establish a dialogue with the existing structures through a shared material language inspired by the surrounding landscape.

At the heart of the park, a timber pathway guides movement across the campus, revealing new perspectives and creating opportunities for gathering and use. The project embodies a restrained and sustainable approach in which architecture, heritage and landscape interact to support the ongoing transformation of the university campus.
